Personal Alchemy — A Primer
Alchemy can be thought of as the search for perfection. In many ways it is based upon the Plato’s ideas about form and perfect form.
In the material world gold is (was) considered as a representation of perfection, hence the notion of turning ‘base metals’ into ‘gold’ and the search for the elixir (philosopher’s stone) which would allow that transformation to happen.
In the physical world, it was about ‘health’ and wellness; the search for a panacea which would heal all ills and cure all disease.
In the spiritual world, it was about the drive for spiritual understanding — a way of touching the beyond.
In all senses, then the search for material, physical or spiritual ‘gold’, is the nature of the alchemical quest.
Today’s alchemists concern themselves with the search for the form behind nature, not in any sense of perfection, but from their questioning of the building blocks of the universe. The Chemists, The Biologists, The Physicists — the natural philosophers of old — continue in their search for aspects of the truth..
Spiritual Alchemists have seen through the trappings of religiosity and spiritual dogma and now seek answers to questions about their personal relationship with The Cosmos.
