Not everyone has heard of Maxwell Maltz (March 10, 1899 — April 7, 1975), but many will know of some of the techniques he proposed in his book Psychocynernetics (1960). Maltz believed that people must have an accurate and positive view of themselves before setting goals; otherwise, they will get stuck in a continuing pattern of limiting beliefs.
Maxwell Maltz was a revolutionary thinker who created an entire field of psychology around the idea of “Psycho-Cybernetics”. In his book, Maltz said that people could learn to use their minds to overcome any obstacle and achieve their goals in life.
Maltz believed that the mind is like a computer: it can be programmed to think in a certain way, and its behaviour can be changed. He proposed that the most effective way to change people’s behaviour is to re-program their minds with positive, optimistic thoughts and beliefs. He was an early proponent of the “self-fulfilling prophecy”, believing that if people believed in themselves, they could make things happen.
Maltz developed techniques to help people reprogram their minds and beliefs. He recommended that people focus on positive thoughts, practice positive self-talk, and use visualization techniques to “see” themselves achieving success in various areas of life. He also suggested that…
