What’s wrong with the Human Race?
And what we can do about it
This single question immediately creates another which requires a moment or two of reflection.
‘Human Race?”
What are we talking about here?
Any word or phrase is really shorthand for bigger and more complex ideas. In a very simplistic sense, the phrase ‘human race’ can be considered to refer to the entire peoples of the Earth. In many ways, this is the meaning I intended to imply.
However, I am immediately faced with a conundrum for to imply the singularity of ‘the human race’ is to apparently gloss over the fact that we are talking about peoples whose experience of the world is not singular; rather it is extremely diverse. This in and of itself creates a challenge in trying to answer my own question.
Whilst the “human race” can be considered in terms of “the human species that exist on this planet”, not all members have the same attitudes, values, opportunities, beliefs that underpin how they react and interact with others.
Indeed there has been a separation of this species of ours into ‘self’, ‘us’ and ‘others’. Yet, at our core, we all have reactions to situations, these reactions we call thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
